Has the IAT 2027 date been announced?
A 2027 exam schedule was not listed on the official portal when checked on 13 September 2026. The dates in this guide are explicitly labelled 2026 reference information.
What are the subjects in IAT?
Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. In 2026 there were 15 questions per subject. See the marking scheme →
Is the score based on my best three subjects?
No. The 2026 rank list uses your total out of 240 across all four sections, rather than a best-three-subject score.
What are the test languages?
The official 2026 FAQ states that the computer-based test is available in English and Hindi.
Is IAT the same as NEST?
No. Do not treat different entrance tests as interchangeable. For IISER admissions in 2026, the stated admission channel is IAT.
Where should I get genuine previous papers?

Eligibility & programmes
Can PCM or PCB students apply?
For 2026, the general condition is at least three of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, together with the other eligibility requirements. Mathematics is compulsory for specified programmes. Check the programme-specific list →
Are all programmes five-year BS-MS degrees?
No. The 2026 options also include four-year BS programmes and B.Tech. programmes at the listed IISERs. Compare the degree options →
Can I use JEE instead of IAT for IISER admission?
The official 2026 IISER process is exclusively through IAT. Do not rely on old descriptions of admission channels for a current application.
Does meeting the board-mark requirement guarantee admission?
No. Eligibility allows participation subject to the rules; a seat depends on the admission process and allocation factors.
Can I assume a scholarship or a fixed fee for every IISER?
Check the specific institute and the applicable scheme. This guide does not promise financial support or quote a single total fee for all campuses.
Results & counselling
When do I submit programme preferences?
In the 2026 process, eligible candidates submitted their preferences during counselling after results, not while filling the initial IAT examination application.
Does an IAT rank guarantee a seat?
No. Allocation also depends on category, preference order and seats available in that round.
What is the difference between float and freeze?
Freeze stops further allocation participation after accepting the offered seat. Float allows consideration for a higher listed preference; a higher allotment replaces the earlier one. Read the counselling guide →
Is paying the application fee the same as paying SAF?
No. The application fee is for the exam application. The seat acceptance fee is paid after an admission offer. Institute fees and reporting are further steps.
